Just watched Infinity War - Give Me Your Spoilers

WARNING: This thread is almost certain to contain spoilers. If you don't want to have parts of the story spoiled, get out of this thread now. I'm not listening to any complaints about spoilers, because I want to catch up.

Okay now that that's out of the way, let's get spoiling. Infinity Wars just started on Netflix, and I watched it last night because I'm a cheapskate. For those of you up on the story, I'm hoping for some filling in of details. Thanos goes hunting for infinity stones, like Harry Potter hunting for horcruxes. He eventually rounds up all six of them, and becomes the unbeatable bad ass he's always wanted to be. His ultimate goal is to decrease the universe's population of sentient beings by half, thereby making sure there's enough resources for everyone, instead of beings living out their days in poverty and want. He claims this idea worked on Gamora's planet, which he says is now a paradise.

So here's a couple-three lingering questions, and I invite more questions and speculation (I'm presuming there will be a sequel because the Marvel movies are money-printing machines): Gamora told Quill that she knew something about Thanos that he himself didn't know. She refuses to tell Quill what it is, though, because she didn't want him to be Thanos' target as well. Gamora becomes the sacrifice required for Thanos to take possession of the Soul infinity stone, and Thanos pitches her off a cliff. Did her secret die with her, or did she memorialize it somehow for Quill to find later?

Thor's god-killing weapon: Can it be used again on Thanos, or is Thanos wise to it and will be on the lookout for it in the future?

The people who were disintegrated, are they dead and gone forever, or can they be retrieved? In the after-credit scene, Nick Fury is disintegrated, but not before he sends something on an electronic device. Who (and what) was he sending to? I didn't recognize the logo that popped up in the little screen on the device. Is there some hidden organization?

Helps to organize the story for me.

Another question: Obviously, the stones can be destroyed (the Scarlet Witch pulverized the Mind stone, but Thanos undid it); is there some cosmic reason for their existence (like the universe would be destroyed if the stones were destroyed)?

In poking around, I see that Marvel has the sequel queued up for 2019, "Endgame." I may have to break down and go see it in the theater.

Captain Marvel, who has her own movie coming out in March, just in time for her appearance in the next Avengers movie at the end of April.

I hope this doesn't mean that the Infinity War sequel gets into some back-and-forth time travel nonsense with characters coming back from the dead only to die again or ultimately succeed. That trope has gotten very stale.

Loki. All of the others will be brought back to life via a new snap or some other reversal of time.

Can't assume they're dead. They may be somewhere and somewhen else.

One possibility is Ant Man who was/is in the quantium realm may find a way to use it to bring some of the Avengers back to normal space/time.

Another is Dr Strange had a plan. "It was the only way."

No way Strange, most of the Guardians, Spidey, Black Panther and probably Bucky aren't coming back. They bring the money. Cap and Ironman will probably take a heroic dirt nap. Evans and RDJ have hinted loudly they want to move on

Been a while since I saw the movie but I’m pretty sure her secret was the location of the Soul Stone, which Thanos got out of her later by torturing Nebula.

I think Thor will keep his new axe, and given the MCU’s somewhat inconsistent positions on the various powers of heroes/armor/weapons from movie to movie, it will either be more or less powerful depending on plot requirements

Don’t be surprised if pretty much everybody comes back in the next movie, but also don’t be surprised if at least one of the “original Avengers” gets the chop.

I'll have to watch it again (I usually watch them again anyway, it's just mindless fun), and see if that's the case.

As for the original Avengers, I have to think that more than one of the actors has gotten a little tired of playing their character and is looking to move on with their careers. Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Captain America are all due for a new iteration, I think. I really like Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye (got the best lines in the original movie ("You and I remember Budapest very differently" ) and Age of Ultron (the colloquy with the Scarlet Witch that ends with "If you walk out that door, you're an Avenger" ), but he's probably done after Endgame.

1. Gamora knew where the soul stone was.
2. Stormbreaker and Thor himself have more powers than Thanos is aware of. However, Thanos' defeat will be at the hands of the Avengers as a group-- that's a concept set in motion from Avengers I on. Their strength is when they're acting together.
3. The people who were disintegrated are trapped in the Soul stone. A lot of people did die permanently when the disintegrated people disappeared and their cars, planes, operating tables, etc., suddenly were unoccupied. Rumor is Hawkeye's family died for real that way.
