(31,989 posts)I remember a few (ahem) years ago driving in the car ...... l put the "Oldies" station on ..... I'm driving along thinking to myself, these aren't "oldies"! These are the songs of my youth!
Then it hit me .... ding ding!
When did my favorite music become "Oldies"???!!!
Glamrock
(11,797 posts)It's depressing.
That happened to me about ten years ago! All that music from my teens and early adult years are now the oldies.
At least that stuff still gets airtime!

(31,989 posts)were Fats Domino, the Everly Brothers, the Platters, etc.
What would those be called now?

(86,579 posts)My parents listened to WWII era music and my older sister was into all the new wave along with classical so I glommed onto that because she had an allowance and could buy records. I was exposed to everything during my childhood so I was very fortunate in that respect.
I guess what my parents listened to, 30s - early 50s, wold be oldies for me. Or whatever came before I was born?

(23,313 posts)Its called the Food Farm...its in the middle town and known for its diverse demographic of shoppers, great beer selection and prices AND its awesome music play list. Everyone talks about it and everyone jams to the Stones, Led Zepplin, Barry White, Heart etc...while they shop. Its a thing here. A good thing.

(23,313 posts)who jams to mamas music. Funny story about this kiddo...we were traveling for business on his 10th birthday...went to celebrate at an Irish pub...There was an old piano in the back of the pub and this normally quiet and shy child of mine wanders back to the piano and starts to play. He has taken lessons since he was 7 and hes pretty good. Anyway, the bartender looks up and says That little kid is playing AC/DC. And, sure enough, Owen was banging out Thunderstruck! It was friggin awesome.

(31,989 posts)I'll bet he brought the house down! I love it when the young ones get turned on to their parents' music!
My 28 year old loves Pink Floyd, Yes, and Led Zep.

(23,313 posts)Im biased but our music kicked ass. No two ways about it. The child followed up Thunderstruck with Bohemian Rhapsody, btw.

(27,797 posts)Odlies, Classic Rock,...Who cares what they call it?
(I think I prefer "oldies" to "classic rock" because "classic rock" often means songs from the '80s or '90s)

(14,015 posts)when I first heard the term "classic rock." It was used dismissively, with a faint air of snottiness by a 20 year old.
I didn't like it then, and I don't like it any better now.
It shoves a great deal of very diverse music into a small box.
