I didn't know there was an alternate ending. If you tag it with a SPOILER ALERT warning, can someone post what that alternate ending was?

In the original Toto meets the daughter of his long lost love and recognizes her resemblance. He then tracks her (Elena) down and confronts her on why she disappeared.

I will leave the rest unanswered.

Edit to add - the nostalgia envelopes Toto like a heavy fog.

Roger Ebert gave the shorter version 3 1/2 stars out of 4 and gave 4 out of 4 for the extended version.

I have only seen the shorter version and didn't know about the extended version until reading this post tonight but I will definitely seek out the extended version now!
