When you set your alarm for a quick nap

like I did this evening--for 40 minutes--be sure to check the ringer is on so you don't wake up 4 hours later just before midnight and wonder how the hell you could have slept through the alarm!

Damn! Now I'll have to stay awake for at least a couple of hours before I can go back to sleep!

I just set my cell phone alarm because it is right next to me on the coffee table.

40 minutes? I can't do less then 1.5 hours.

The 1960s sleep training was awesome. None of this cry it out but more how parents soothed you and then you soothed yourself. Low lights before bedtime, no eating, no stories and nice soft back rubbing.

We were trained to be asleep 5 minutes after lying down. I still can't lay on the couch and watch a movie...........DAMN IT!

Now that I'm retired, I often have a nap for an hour in the afternoon so I don't fall asleep before 9 on the couch watching TV and then am awake even before 5.

Yesterday I had a long day and no afternoon nap. My plan was to take a 45 minute nap after dinner and watch Chris Hayes and or Rachel before going to bed no earlier than 10.

I turned the ringer off before an appointment with the accountant yesterday afternoon and forgot to turn it back on!

In our family a bad nap includes, but not limited to, calls from family members who should know everyone's napping schedule.

My 3 year old grand put himself to bed because, as he said, "I couldn't wait for her to stop fooling around with the baby".

... more times than I care to admit to, i.e. not checking whether the alarm is set for AM or PM!

There's nothing like setting the alarm for 9 in the morning, waking up at 11 wondering how I slept through the alarm - and then getting scared out of my wits when the alarm unexpectedly starts blaring at 9 at night.

I have a car coming tomorrow morning at 5 am to take me to the airport for a 7 am flight. I'm going to be obsessed with checking my alarm so I'm up in time!

More than once I've made that mistake.

I can do it on my phone, or tablet, or some other stuff, but I want a dedicated alarm clock sitting next to the bed. And maybe another one next to the couch.
