They really captured it, and they did it with just a few thousand extras and CGI.

(5,477 posts)The other parts of the extras of the BluRay go into great detail on how they recreated that. Amazing bit of work, especially considering that the concert footage was the very first scene they filmed, before the actors really got into working wth each other.

(51,590 posts)asked me if I knew this band. I said, "Oh yes, I still have Bohemian Rhapsody on a 45 from when I was a teenager and the CD in my car right now". She told me she never heard of them before but really like their music and the film too.
I wondered why someone would go see a movie about a band they never heard of but I think she read that it was nominated for awards and just won the Golden Globes and wanted to see a good movie. There were two women behind me in line (one was 65 and the other 80) and this was the second and third times they were seeing it.
It was the only movie I have seen this year (I have a lot of health and medical bills and have to watch every penny) and I chose a good one!

(4,544 posts)Queen and Freddie scored the background of my life in the 70s and 80s. Their music is from my time as a young adult, and my daughter grew up with them in the background of her childhood. We both loved the film!

(20,186 posts)I was a pretty big Queen fan, but the movie brought back so many memories of that horrible time when AIDS came into all our lives. I lost EVERY ONE of my gay friends from high school, college and my 20s. EVERY SINGLE ONE! It was such a sad, scary time. I cried for Freddie, but I cried for the friends I lost as well.

(4,544 posts)I lost many people, too, but not quite everyone like you did. I'm so sorry. I think I cried more when I watched it again at home recently than I did in the theater. The loss hit me deeply sitting on my own sofa in my home. So many bright, beautiful, brilliant souls just... gone... I cried for them, and for us, and for Freddie. The world is dimmed by their loss.

(28,120 posts)guess the older woman who was seated next to you was?
Just cannot imagine anyone not knowing who Queen was.
I'm 72 and have seen Bohemian Rhapsody twice and want to buy the movie! I watch their 1985 LiveAid full performance at least twice a week, so I think you'd say I'm a fan.

(9,651 posts)And really loved seeing this side by side. Amazing.
And I screamed with delight when Rami Malek won the Oscar. He really earned it!
Freddie and Queen sure left us some incredible gifts to enjoy forever.

Politicians, may I offer a suggestion, watch how he communicates with his hands and arms. Look how he shows strength in the flick of the wrist. Study him and while we don't expect a rock concert to break out at your rallies, but if we want to kick Trump out of office, let's use the right amount of strength with the power of our ideas.
P.S. Miss you Freddie. Thought we would have found another beautiful person who could sing like you by now. I was wrong, and it's heartbreaking. However, we loved the movie to just escape this Trump world for a few hours. Thank You Queen.

(20,186 posts)I don't think so. While not as graceful as Freddie, Beto has true PASSION and it shows.

(9,291 posts)Watch Freddie live video, get the movement coach that Rami hired. Trump can't do this. He just does his puffed out bully routine, so Beto has an understanding and he can reach people just with his voice and arm movements.
I've just been thinking of a politician who understands the power of performance, it matters.
