It's adorable don't get me wrong, but ... WOW. That is BRAVE. They are BIG and there's 4 of them!

(86,586 posts)and can push you right over. They know her and her scent and her calls so they were totally cool with her, she's an elder in the pack. She knew enough to crouch, plus they want you at their eye level or they will knock you down.
What I don't care for is they way they lick... when they greet in welcome, they lick each other's teeth. If you meet friendly wolves, they will want to lick your teeth so you need to keep them together... ick. But if you ever get to meet wolves, it's worth a little grossness to have such an encounter.
That was cool to see.

(2,598 posts)What you are referring to is a dominance thing in the pack. She did not try to take a dominant position so there was no conflict.

(54,003 posts)Wolves feel this. Unless they're starving or otherwise provoked, they're not just going to attack on the spot. That's not to say she wasn't taking some risk. Don't do this at home, kids! But given the bond they had, the nurturing they gave her, and the relative intelligence of large canines, it was a well calculated risk. If these wolves had been ready to attack, they would have signaled it well beforehand and would have approached her in a very different manner.

(38,311 posts)These wolves obviously recognize her as a member of their pack who fed and cared for them when they were young.
I like wolves a lot, I think they should be respected and protected.
But they are not big cuddly dogs.

(7,349 posts)My spirit animal! Back in 2002 I had the opportunity to get up close and personal with many wolves at a sanctuary in So Cal where the "industry" sometimes retires the wolves they use in productions. There were wolves from the movies "White Fang" and "Dances with Wolves", all were friendly and in a wide open enclosure so were free to wander amongst us. There were also 2 week old pups we got to cuddle, I was in heaven!

(3,326 posts)I love wolves. As a child' I couldn't stand the story of, Little Red Riding Hood. It made me sad. I envisioned alternative endings, where the wolf is the hero. We need them in nature, I pray that they ultimately won't be de listed as an Endangered Species.
They are such intelligent, wild, iconic beings, their spirit surrounds them. They clearly recognized this woman, with their very emotional greeting. Love it.
