(86,591 posts)there's still ice relief all over the streets in the towns and cities but the Interstate's clear and dry. We melt first around here and we're down to six or eight inches in the this spots and a couple feet in a lot of places... it's a mess that's been melting for three days.

(22,114 posts)plants, mulch, etc. already in the gardening section...wow...and it was close to freezing last night too here in STLMO!
I'd just wish that we would get a wave of at least 70 degree weather but I guess I can't gripe...we've had several days of clear sunny skies w/o a single cloud in the sky...it's been what seems like months of overcast weather, one of the most wettest winters we've had in almost a century according to the news folks.

(992 posts)Becasue they will be my repeat customers - coming back for more plants after all of the frost tender annuals they planted in April succumb to an early to mid-May freeze. Even though I told them it might be a tad early.
No earlier than May 15th folks here in central Ohio. And sometimes even then it is a crapshoot.
I've experimented with tomatoes - planting some early with protection, waiting until Memorial Day for the rest. Both plantings produced at the same time. Ground temperature is the key. If you just have to garden - and I include myself in that group - cool weather stuff only. Well, OK, maybe a couple of tomato plants in a protected environment ......... (plants are cheap when you start your own from seed)
Right now there is still snow on some of my raised beds. Not much, but still snow. Might be gone by tomorrow at this time. Oh please, be gone. I. am. so. tired. of. winter.

I love looking at the pink and purple flowers.
A lot of neighbors have them in. And if they die I got them all for $15 so worth it!
I have been buying daffodils weekly at Trader Joes last few weeks, all over my house. The bright yellow is pushing out winter.
