When I lived in Venice, Italy, I heard Venetians regularly say: outside of Venice, it's all the provinces. I kept thinking: London? Paris? NY? Now I see it was a 16th century reality and that the phrase among Venetians, "Nothing ever changes in Venice," has held the idea of superiority among them since then!
