I rewatched the movie Cast Away last night.
And I have to say I am impressed of how well made a movie it is and how it stands up so well.
When I originally saw it years ago, I thought "Well, that was pretty good," but really didn't think much of it beyond that.
And it's got Tom Hanks in it, and he's going to command primary attention in whatever movie he's in simply because he's Tom Hanks. (And that's great, because he's a great actor and seems also to be a great guy.)
Plus all the "Wilson" jokes that followed, and "I have created fire!"
But all of that almost obscures the fact that on its own, it is a pretty damn great movie and I even didn't realize that until repeat viewing.
The Cinematography is absolutely incredible, as is the sound. The story seems as though it would have followed a novel, but in fact is all original screen writing. And it makes the absolute best out of minimal dialogue and just incredible shots.
I'm so surprised that I didn't realize what a great movie it was before this.
