Władziu Valentino Liberace (May 16, 1919 February 4, 1987) was an American pianist, singer and actor. A child prodigy born in Wisconsin to parents of Italian and Polish origin, Liberace enjoyed a career spanning four decades of concerts, recordings, television, motion pictures, and endorsements. At the height of his fame, from the 1950s to the 1970s, Liberace was the highest-paid entertainer in the world, with established concert residencies in Las Vegas, and an international touring schedule. Liberace embraced a lifestyle of flamboyant excess both on and off stage, acquiring the nickname "Mr. Showmanship". </snip>

I was 8 years old and when I got home from school each day I turned on the tv and watched the one channel we got, which included shows by the Mills Brothers and Liberace. It was quite an entertaining education!

(5,914 posts)5. He was a master showman, for sure.
Had the audience in the palm of his hand.
I lost it over the tiny candelabra.

(9,696 posts)7. I saw Liberace in Vegas when I was a kid.
Sadly, the only thing that I remember was his white ermine cape. It was pretty amazing.
I also saw Elvis and Sigfired & Roy, because that was the entertainment my parents loved. They did not care for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin or Sammy Davis Jr....sigh....
