2. Is that all there are in rescue shelters these days? I rarely see any other type of dogs anymore.

Used to see Labs, Beagles, Brittanys ..all sorts of dogs. Now everything is pit bulls by and large. Stop breeding them maybe? I dunno. I'd love to rescue a good hunting dog. Glad these guys are happy.

9. Beagles are good if you hunt rabbits or raccoons.

They tend to howl a lot. I'm just referencing how the rescue dogs I see these days are pitbulls. And pits, when you don't know their history, have had bad results. I would rescue a dog, but, not a pit bull. Just not my style. I can honestly say, Ive never heard a series of stories about springer spaniels or brittanys, attacking humans. Big little, or in between. I wish folks wouldn't breed pits so much. And thus they wouldn't have to be rescued. Good animals if you are a good owner. Like anything i suppose.

12. There are others, but it seems that people dump Pit Bulls more.

They probably cannot handle them when they start to grow. They are big, energetic and powerful young dogs and need lots of training. People don’t want to devote the time to them, I guess. I agree. There are too many and they should never be bred. Spay and neuter your dogs, everyone!!!

Try the breed rescue groups if you are looking for hunting breeds. I know that the Springer Spaniel rescue group does excellent work. Bless those good-hearted folks.

I am a firm believer in spay and neuter. Very good and loving animals get put to sleep for no reason other than laziness and irresponsible ownership. There are programs all over the country for people that can't afford a vet for their animals.

much there are more of them. Sadly PEOPLE have used Pitties so much that their suffering is much more than that of other breeds. I mean they suffer from discrimination.

I hope that you don't think I descriminate, bc I choose to have a hunting dog. I absolutely never intended to say, that and I guess sometimes when words like that are used on DU, you have to address them or posts get shredded. I love animals right up to the aquarium we have here at the house.
I know lots of pits. Personally I just never heard of them being good hunting dogs for field and woodland type hunting. Too bad bc their fur is great for picking burs out.
Labs love to swim, and love to fetch ducks. Very cool to watch. imho.. Brittanys are natural pointers. Unbelievable to observe in action. Springers and others, just love to run around in big fields where pheasants roam. (They're better than chicken!) There is absolutely no hunting experience quite like bird or duck hunting w a dog tht loves it just as much. Heh heh.
Happy Memorial Day.

Greatest dog we had in my family. We still tell stories about Skip when we get together. So glad Luna and Desmond found each other. Kudos to people who recognize what great dogs pit bulls are.

I volunteer for a Cavalier King Charles Rescue org. However, once I somehow managed to rescue a young Pittie. He was the sweetest, most lovable guy you would want to meet. For a number of reasons we couldn't keep him, but we found a Pit Bull Rescue org. They found a home for him and his new owners absolutely loved him to pieces.

There really are no bad dogs, only bad owners.
