If my computer informs me that a file I want to print can't be printed because it is either

damaged or corrupted, can I ever get it back? And how?

I can't print it out or cut and paste it to a new file. It is very difficult to retype because it is a Contents page to a book with subheadings all lined up perfectly (and took me forever to create altho it looks very nice).

Is there some other way to put it together again?

You simply say you can't... Do you get a an error message? Try copying and pasting in parts. Surely, you should be able to copy and paste parts of the file to a new file. Need way more detail.
