Ugh! I hate the heat!

It is only 76 degrees here, but my apartment feels like a sauna. The high today was around 85, with a dew point of around 60 and humidity of around 80%.

I was out doing errands and the sweat was just dripping down my back so I decided to come back in to be in front of the fan and surround myself w/ ice packs, but even that is not enough.

I cannot stand feeling hot and sweaty. Every time I take a shower I feel like I need another one 10 minutes later. The only way I can handle summer is if I have a body of water to submerge myself in constantly and a freezing cold air conditioned room to retreat to.

I don't know how anyone can bear living in the south. I will finally be getting an air conditioner on Tuesday, but until then, I am in hell. I can't wait for October! I love it when it is in the 50's and 60's!

Is anyone else having a hard time with the heat?

survive it. But I have heard that you don't get the humidity that we get, which is the real killer. It is sooooo uncomfortable!

I wish I had the money to migrate around the world during the seasons to where the temps are ideal. If I did, I would be in Northern Europe right now. Probably Scotland or Scandinavia somewhere.

In winter, I would go where it is around 60-70 degrees and I would stay here in the northeast in the fall. In the spring, I would go someplace where it is in the 60's and not raining all the time.

so that he could advise me on the best value for my money, so I did. He ended up buying me a portable AC which will be here by Tuesday! He is such a sweetheart! I did not expect that at all, but it was such a nice thing for him to do!

A portable unit will be much easier for me to handle and store in a small studio like mine, and also easier to set up. Thanks for asking!

I love the NW. Wearing sweat pants too, with all my windows open. I hate the heat also. over 85 I am unhappy. I refuse to do humidity. That is the worst.

I was up in Maine over the 4th of July long weekend and it was very hot and dry during the day, but it cooled down into the low 70's w/ a breeze at night and it was so nice. Also, I had an air conditioned room up there!

Still, I spent the entire weekend during the day in the pool. I could only stand being out of it for about 10 minutes before I had to back in again. The pool water was almost too warm, It could have been at least 5 degrees colder.

I think it is inevitable that we will have hot days here and there for the next month, then we will be done. I really hate the heat also. We get the rain during winter and spring, but mostly a misty type rain that allows walking without getting soaked and tepid winters. It is about as ideal as I am going to get.

Though last winter we did have an 18" dump. People didn't even have snow shovels. It was so funny, the town shutting down for three days. People did not even know how to deal with it.

I can also drive an hour to the beach and drop degrees by 5-10 if I need some cooler weather.

it hit 110 and I was actually comfortable (sort of) because of the low humidity.

Manged to wander around the Desert Botanical Gardens in that sunshine, but wore shoes with thick soles.

Oddly enough, now that I am officially an old fart the heat doesn't bother me as much as it used to. One of the very few advantages of getting older.

But I still don't like the heat unless I have a body of water I can dive into.

It's funny, I am one of those people who has always been cold, even when other people were hot and I find as I get older, the heat actually bothers me MORE than it did when I was younger. I think I take after my parents who keep their bedroom windows open in the middle of winter in upstate NY and the thermostat at 60.

Nothing I like better than to go out for a jog when it gets into the 90s. I have peripheral neuropathy, so my feet are always cold.

You are just asking for a hospital stay! I know your feet are cold, but it's very dangerous to raise your body temp when it's that hot out. Anyway, I hope you stay safe and healthy. I guess some people can get away with it, but others can't bear it at all. We all have to know our limits. Good luck and stay safe!

I live for fall and winter.

I love it when the temps are in the 50's and 60's, especially when it is dry and crisp.

I am the type of person who keeps my window open at night as long as the temp is above 30. I love sleeping in a freezing cold room.

How can you hike in the heat and humidity? I feel like I am going to keel over from heat stroke after walking 10 blocks. In the cool weather, I can walk forever, but the heat just makes me feel week and nauseated.

Dogs and cats.

They have that permanent fur coat, and don't sweat like we do.

They are lucky if they can be kept in an air conditioned environment.

I was up visiting my sister in Maine over the long holiday weekend last week and they have a big Swiss Mountain Dog. The poor dog was just dying. That breed especially does not weather the heat well, they are cold weather dogs. We tried to keep her inside, but she wants to be out where her people are. We have tried to get her in the pool to cool her off, but she doesn't like the water.

She's like a nanny, running around the edges of the pool making sure all the kids are ok, and a few times she has fallen in accidentally, so she can swim, but she just doesn't like it for some reason. We try to keep her wet just to cool her body temp down so she doesn't get overheated. Poor thing.

But in saying that I also love having A/C , it's kind of needed.
I think it's more I just hate being cold and I'm already dreading winter again, last years was soooo long.

pretty well, but by mid-Feb, March, I am completely over it. I can deal w/ the cold to a certain extent, but when it gets down into the single digits, like it did here for long stretches this winter, I find it very unpleasant and feel like I just go from home to work and back again. I don't want to go outside if I don't have to. Even temps in the teens are pretty brutal.

The snow can be pretty, but after a while, it's hard to get around in areas that aren't plowed or shoveled, especially at street corners where there is a narrow little footpath over a huge snowbank that you have to negotiate to get from the sidewalk to the street that usually isn't wide enough for two feet side by side. It can be very treacherous. And then in Feb and March everything turns into slush and puddles which just makes getting around miserable.

If only it could be like spring and fall year-round! *sigh*

If you have a box fan that fits in your window, place it in backwards so that it's sucking the hot air out instead of blowing hot air in.

If you have blinds or drapes close them. I know this sucks because of preventing sunshine inside the home, but it acts as an insulator and keeps cold air in and hot air out. This works in reverse in the winter months as well. (Just don't close them in front of your window fan).

Keep using the crock pot, microwave or stove top in the kitchen. Avoid using the oven.

If you have ceiling fans, you want them to be on counterclockwise in the summer. Clockwise in the winter.

I hope that these tips help if you can use them. Here's hoping!
