It isn't what you think. It's "King Kong", from 1968. It is only found on the "Kinks Kronicles" album, a compilation of Kinks songs 1966-1971.
I'm King Kong
I got so much money
I can buy anybody that gets in my way

(6,363 posts)We were on a long drive (by standards at the time) from the far south side to the far north side of chicago. The AM radio in our Pontiac Impala had 5 buttons and the week before, I had finally cajoled my dad into "giving" me one of the buttons. I programmed it to WLS and I was styling.
Then came Lola...she walked like a woman and talked like a man and by the time she said hey little boy, won't you come home with me...I was hooked.
Playlists were short at the time and I think we heard Lola 3-4 times along the way. It seemed like I had some 6th sense about when it would be on WLS because virtually every time I asked "can I use my button"...Lola was there.
It was on the 5th (and last) time that I lost my button...to WMAQ I think. I wouldn't have my own radio button until I had my own car.
Ahhhh...those were the days.
And note: in his later year, dad came to appreciate The Kinks, along with Zep, the Stones, and The Who. He used to joke that they sounded better as his hearing got worse but I know he enjoyed them deep down.

(3,252 posts)In 1963 a rock and roll band in London's west End had two drummers. One drummer was Charlie Watts. Watts eventually quit the band because he felt he wasn't good enough. The other drummer was Mick Avory. He eventually became the Kinks' drummer.
Also, about 15 years ago, a Rock and Roll magazine produced an reticle "the reason rock and roll sucks ". The article claims the reason is the drummers can't keep time. They invited various drummers to drum to perfect time. Some new drummers didn't last two minutes. However, Mick Avory kept perfect time for the entire length of the experiment. Thirty minutes! True story!
