Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWas going to call AT&T about my cable bill today but never got the strength to do it...
I got busy with other things and put it off. And then I read that calling in the morning is a bad idea since that's when they are busiest. I'm not prepared to drop them altogether but they are offering lower prices than what I have. I don't want some special deal with hidden fees though. I've got my bill printed out and I'm going to ask for a higher internet speed and better Uverse.
Any tips?

(1,622 posts)...and when you are, let them know that you've been inundated with offers from their competitors but you'd like to stick with AT&T if they can get your monthly bill down to an amount that works for you. Whatever they come back with, always be ready with a counter-offer and 9 times out of 10 they'll make it happen for you.
Ask me how I know...

(16,334 posts)and I refuse to go back to them for many reasons even if they are less expensive. I held out for Google Fiber but it's not going to happen anymore so my plan is to get better service for less money. At the very least they should give me the rates on the website.
I'm not particularly shy about asking for something but it's initiating the conversation and making sure I don't lose services I already have.

(14,559 posts)I recommend them. 400 Mbps Ethernet and 175-200 Mbps wifi.
Same cost as ATT and service is great should you need it. Techs book a 1 hr window. No contract.

(31,392 posts)when they doubled my TV bill after a year. Called AT&T and complained. Told them I was retired. Their response was they didn't have any specials and that was the price. After checking with Spectrum and discovering I could get faster internet and same TV package for the lower price I had been paying AT&T, I called them back and said unless they could continue the price I'd been paying, I'd be terminating service with them. Even with the second chance to make it right for me, they declined. So I switched to Spectrum.
I do have much faster internet speed, but still have to reboot the TV box occasionally when something goes haywire with it.

(15,286 posts)There's regular custome service first. If they can't offer you a better deal, ask to speak to customer retention. The customer retention group is authorized to offer more and better deals. There are alternatives to cable like DISH and DirectTV plus streaming, so the cable companies can't assume it's them or nothing.
