Wild Crow Moves Into Wawa And Starts Robbing Customers

“I can’t believe he stole it!” 😂

By Sarah V Schweig

You might think it would be totally safe to walk through a shopping center parking lot in the middle of the day.

Yes, you might think that — if you haven't met Edgar.

Edgar is a wild crow who sometimes lives in the sign of a Wawa convenience store. From there, he has an ideal view of all the goings-on in the parking lot below.

Just the other day, a guy walking through this parking lot learned that no one is really safe from this particularly sneaky bird.

A local Philadelphia musician, Curtis Remarc, witnessed the whole thing.

"I pulled up in my car and saw the guys pointing and talking in the direction of the crow on the sign," Remarc told The Dodo. "I got out and heard 'I can’t believe he stole it!'"

That's when Remarc peered up and saw something in the crow's mouth.

"I realized it was money," he said.

Remarc knew he had to capture the thieving bird on video:

After he stopped filming, Remarc heard one of the guys say, "I can’t believe Edgar would steal from me, I just fed him yesterday!"

Remarc had to check whether he heard correctly: "When I asked, 'His name is Edgar?', the guy goes “Yeah, I call him that, I was feeding him yesterday and now, he took my dollar!'"

Thefts like this have made Edgar the bird kind of famous. One of the Wawa store's managers told Remarc that Edgar commonly swoops down and takes people's belongings — like food, cigarettes or, as in this case, cold hard cash, which he adds to his stash in the Wawa sign.

The thefts don't always go as planned, though: Just the day before this dollar heist, Edgar had gotten his beak stuck in someone's car window.

Crows are known to be super smart — and apparently they can use their smarts for good as well as evil.

"A dreadful mugging it was," Remarc laughed.

I love that they named the crow "Edgar."

Those of us in northern MI learned early to never, ever say "Canadian Goose." It's a huge no-no. catbyte Jul 2019 #8

there is a crow that steals stuff...that’s what crows do. I am surprised that there is a store where people shop called a Wawa? WTF?

The chain's name comes from the site of the company's first milk plant and corporate headquarters in the Wawa, Pennsylvania area. The name of the town Wawa is in turn derived from the Ojibwe word for the Canada goose (taken from The Song of Hiawatha).[citation needed] An image of a goose in flight serves as the Wawa corporate logo. It is said that the goose was chosen because the company employs the principles of teamwork, group consensus, and encouragement.

It's famous for a huge statue of a Canada Goose and the drive from the Soo to Wawa along Lake Superior is gorgeous. I grew up in northern lower Michigan and we used to take short vacations there when I was a kid. Why they named a convenience store chain in Pennsylvania after it is beyond me. Their explanation is unique!

I had no idea about the name Wawa and where it came from. Gotta love DU. Thanks for calling the goose a Canada goose instead of Canadian goose...off the wall pet peeve of mine.

They have freshly made hoagies and other sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches and really good coffee, in addition to having cheap gas and all the other things that most convenience stores have.

The sandwiches are so good people choose to get them over other places like Subways.

I admit to being a bit shocked by the name at first, myself, but the stores still managed to impress me!

But I appreciate knowing about the store. So, no Wawas in Montana but we do have lots of crows. We used to have a favorite crow that we named Tim. Tim would peck at our kitchen window when he needed a treat. His favorite things were cherry tomatoes and dog food kibbles that he would take to our birdbath to soak so they would soften.

And I thought it was going to be something like a gang of people shoving their way through WaWa and robbing people. LOL.
