(6,113 posts)There are a lot of bears everywhere in NC. Mostly they keep to themselves and out of sight. Mostly has two big exceptions: when mother with cubs are foraging; and when adolescent bears (mostly males) are forced to leave "home" and find their own territory. I have lots of video over the years of mother and cubs up the trees in various backyards.

I always go to shut the chickens in the coop at night. Last night, a raccoon and I scared the crap out of each other. He had been munching on the last of the chicken feed, and ran up a tree. This morning, I found a pile of raccoon poop in front of the coop door (a comment on my hospitality). Then he'd gone on to the barn and wrecked the feed room trying to see if there was anything he could get into (denied).
When you live in the country with lots of woods, you best expect wildlife. We've had a doe with twin fawns hanging around lately. There was a big heron in the pond yesterday, and a turkey in the pasture this morning. Most of the time, its pretty terrific.
