Divorce lawyer question:

My attorney retired two months ago and sent back my retainer which is fine because everything was all settled. My ex just contacted me by email and said that since he wasn't making as much money as he used to HE is going to recalibrate the alimony he was ordered to pay. He wants to cut it in half. He also told me he wants to see my pay stubs.

I responded by saying that I was finding a new attorney and from here out we should only communicate through our lawyers and not to contact me directly again.

Can he do this?

By hiring the best and most costly lawyer I could find, I saved a lot of hassle and money. Even after it was over my ex started calling my relatives and friends complaining about me. She sent her, what I called a nasty gram letter telling her everything was settled and agreed on in court and if she bother anyone else we would be more than happy to see her in court. No charge for the letter and not another peep out of her. She was able to tell me exactly what the judge would say and do and was 100% right. At one of those most difficult times in my life, she helped me legally and emotionally. She is now a judge and I'm sure a great one.

Best of luck.

No kids either. She was a Sheriff Deputy and had the County Prosecutor for a lawyer, at first until the Prosecutor dropped her. Two of those years I was on the lamb in hiding and ended up moving out of state for 8 years being in fear of her friends in the Dept. She ended up losing her job after 19 years with the Dept. She sued the Dept and it went to the State Court of Appeals where she lost her case. To this day I'm still in aw of my Attorney and the job she did for me.

The Sheriff and my shrink agreed. No point in sticking around. I sure learned a lesson or two and am now moving on with my life. One of the best lessons was to always get a great lawyer and let him or her battle for you.

I remember my lawyer was telling me she had lunch with the judge a few days back. I said, you guys are just like Boston Legal and said, no way that they don't dress like that.
