Long Island nanny says she swiped family's cat to 'save' it from euthanasia

It was pet-it larceny.

A Long Island nanny says she stole her bosses’ cat to keep it from being put down — turning her back on her job before turning herself into police.

“I am willing to go to jail and sleep with cockroaches over this, because this animal has a right to life,” nanny-turned-cat burglar Rebecca Katz told The Post.

Yet Julie Berman “threatened to give him the needle every other day,’’ Katz claimed. “For a few years, I’ve been crying because I didn’t know that the cat would be there the next day.”

"Julie Berman told authorities she had planned to put down the family's feline of 15 years "due to many medical issues and our pet living in pain over the recent months," according to court documents. But the Bermans still want Tigger back."
