What is the ASCII ribbon campaign? The formatting is all messed up in the Wikipedia entry, but for the young'uns:

ASCII ribbon campaign

The ASCII ribbon campaign was an Internet phenomenon started in 1998 advocating that email be sent only in plain text, because of inefficiencies or dangers of using HTML email. Proponents placed ASCII art in their signature blocks, meant to look like an awareness ribbon, along with a message or link to an advocacy site:

What was it called, alt.warlord or something? The enormous ASCII signatures that were the hallmark of that group.

Aha, found it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt.fan.warlord

I'd get access through a free local BBS. I had -- what? -- a 2400 baud rate modem, something like that. I upgraded to 9600 and 14400 along the way.

Sigh.
