Ah, cats

Last night I went to bed at 11 and fell asleep before midnight. Much needed, deep, restful sleep. At 6:30, Sophie jumped up on the bed, screeching out panic stricken meows. She repeatedly head butted me, followed by a full weight dead fall ON MY HEAD. I got up, ascertained the house wasn't in peril and no monsters were roaming the property, made coffee and some breakie, went back to the bedroom to get dressed, and here’s what I saw.

Laying in bed, lights out except for my bed stand reading light. Cat is lying beside me and it is approaching midnight, all's well with the world this night.

Then, the little MFer jumps up, leaps off the bed and stares down the darkened hallway with an intensity that invokes fear inside me. No sounds from the hallway, just an empty pit of darkness that the cat is peering with laser beam focus into.

I , of course, get out of bed , look into the dark hallway and admonish the cat calling him names befitting his actions. Then the monster creeps out of the zone of bed stand light and still stares into the dark.

Now I am compelled to get the flashlight out of the drawer (kept for frequent black-outs in our area) and shine it into the void. Nothing there, but the cat still is ready to commit to whatever is lurking there for cats are known for their ESP ability to see what humans cannot see.

So it tentatively walk down the hall holding the flashlight if a weapon is needed. Nothing. Open each door in the hall and even the closets in each room. Nothing.

Going back to the bedroom the little shit is nowhere on the bed, but now underneath it which compels me to go look again in each room for the cat NEVER went under the bed in the entire 6 years I've put up with him. Nothing again.

I finally go back to bed and 20 min. later he comes to sleep in his customary spot beside me.

Your ears aren't nearly as good as a cats and that sounds like something was running in the dark.

They really are relentlessly cute, scheming creatures, aren't they?
