PF Flyers

PF Flyers is an American brand of lifestyle shoes that are currently manufactured by New Balance. Founded in 1937, it is one of the original American sneaker brands.

History

In 1933, canvas footwear pioneer B.F. Goodrich patented the "Posture Foundation" insole, and began adding the new technology to its shoes. B.F. Goodrich shoes with Posture Foundation became known simply as "P-F" in 1937. In 1935, Canadian badminton player Jack Purcell designed a low, white-bleached badminton shoe made of canvas-and-rubber for B.F. Goodrich. By 1944, PF Flyers released their first kids collection of shoes, creating the slogan, "Run Faster, Jump Higher". Fashion trends in the 1940s and 1950s saw PF Flyers expand from gyms and ball fields to become fashionable active footwear; its main competitors being Converse and Keds. "Everything you do is more fun with PF" read one 1947 magazine ad. PF styles ranged from high- and low-top sport shoes to oxfords and moccasins "for work, relaxation and play." By the 1960s, PF was one of the most popular shoes in America, but struggled with industry changes in the early 70s.

This is what you're capable of when you can run faster and jump higher:

But I loved my British Knight high-tops in junior high. They looked similar to these:

I asked my mom for a pair of Air Jordans to play basketball in.

She bought me a pair of black high tops that had MJ written on them....

They were Michael Jackson shoes!

After my initial teenage girl horror fit, I sucked it up and wore them anyways.

When I got a summer job at 14, I bought myself a pair of Reebok Pumps. I thought I was sooooooo cool lol.

In elementary it was Kangaroo's with the stash pocket or zipper

I also rocked jelly shoes in elementary

In junior high it was these exact L.A. Gear hightops as pictured

Now as an adult I only wear supportive sneakers due to back problems. My brand and style of choice are Skecher D'Lights.

Then Adidas Stan Smith

Back when I was a little one, I never really learned the brand, but the high top sneakers had circular rubber patches on the ankles.

Before that I can not remember because brand name shoes were not as important yet. It was the brand of jeans that you had then.

I cannot remember a brand. We got whatever the A&N store had in stock. If the sole separated it was glued back on. Worn out pairs were used for crabbing and fishing in the river.

After 139 years, A&N stores to close doors (From 2008)

There was no way she was going to buy me shoes specific for one sport. Won most valuable player in intramural sports in grade 9 for the white team. My shoes wore down. And out again we went and got All Courts with no ankle support that the high top basketball shoes had. I sprained my ankles a few times. My brother was the same. My sister too i think.

say Keds! And, when I was growing up in TX, we called them tennis shoes and not sneakers (at least my friends and family did). Even now it just feels too weird to say sneakers. They'll always be tennis shoes (or tenny shoes) to me..

I don't remember having many choices about shoes. Me and my siblings generally wore sneakers one step removed from whatever was most embarrassing.
