At my age and whatever ailments, at the onset of late-Spring and Summer I now *brace* and strategize to *SURVIVE* the heat - only tend the watering of the bushes-only (no extra plants) earlier than 9 A.M. and do any mowing after 7:30 P.M., and stay locked up with carbon footprint aircon all days, only exiting to get into the aircon vehicle.
It's not all selfishness, there are age and ailments involved.
When the doors open, there is a blast of hot air that knocks the dogs and me down. The University of YouTube has a video of the Vesuvius blasts of hot air that Pompeii (did not) endure. (Nobody thinks I'm equating here.)
*********ANYWAY, google now gives me a variety of dates of the dies caniculares, but I thought they were 40 days starting from July 14. But they are *over* as far as I'm concerned, today. And it was nicely cloudy all day and it *rained*!
I don't expect that the page will be turned towards cooler temperatures immediately.

(66,328 posts)As a transplanted Texan, I hated the cold, gray, rainy days common to the Northwest. But having lived here for nearly 4/5ths of my life now, I'm not only used to it, I love it.

(3,268 posts)It's 6:30 Monday morning and the outside temp this morning is 48 degrees-our first foray into the 40's since late April or early May. I do see a predicted high of 85 late in the week and no low temperatures under 50 but this is a sign and a warning to take the things you like from summer before it's too late.
PS:I am in southern NH. Further north-say Berlin or Stark it's 42...

(2,945 posts)90 degrees with 64 degree dew point. There's likely no break for us till mid-September but it will still be in the upper 90s and low 100s.
