My 20yr old Maytag machine has bitten the dust. Besides the bottom rotating arm that sprays the water ceasing to rotate, it's buttons are wearing out & it has nicks & dings on the front.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!

(5,812 posts)Best dishwasher I have ever had. Pricey, but does the job and does it quietly and effectively.

(82,849 posts)We recently remodeled our kitchen and installed a dishwasher for the first time. We looked over the available models and settled on Bosch. Cleans the dishes great, and is so quiet, Bosch installed a little light to tell you that it's running. Competitively priced, too.

(22,250 posts)I have had 3 Kenmore DW and loved them all.
The one I have has power surge nozzles in the back wall, if you have a really grody casserole or other item you put it facing those nozzles and set the power wash switch.
I love it.

(28,118 posts)And I thought you'd say that. Only one tiny thing: our house goes on the market next spring....i think. (We own some gorgeous property where we plan to build retirement home...but in a red state, so you can understand the dilemma & our hesitation.)
Appliance store near us has Frigidaires on sale for $370 but while I don't want to shortchange our buyers like that, I don't want to put a $1000+ into a new machine. We're certainly not buying a Frigidaire.
Thanks again.

(115,673 posts)but I suppose some parts come from China, like everything else, so there might be a price increase. I paid about $400 for mine several years ago but it was the previous year's model so it was discounted a bit.

(28,118 posts)Thank You, Thank You, Lunasun!
And thanks to CaliPeggy & others above for recommending Bosch.
Called a salesman who promised to have one of these on the floor when we come in. Even IF we sell our home next yr, our buyers will be happy and we're more than willing to pay the little extra.

(14,958 posts)and, after a few months (a short time sample, of course), I am happy. Quiet and effective so far. I got mine because a relative had a similar model for several years and had been satisfied.
Major caveat, of course: just about every single make/model I investigated (including the model my relative had had) had wildly disparate/bipolar on-line reviews on just about every website I tried to get insight from.

I also need to find my 9 or 10mo old copy of Consumer Reports listing kitchen appliances too.

(26,324 posts)I bought Ge the same time my neighbor bought all LG. Shes had nothing but trouble - refrigerator compressor is on its last leg, dishwasher leaks at the seals, stove igniter wont shut off.
I have an LG dryer I had to replace the drum. It only cost me a hundred bucks for the part since I changed it myself. But people online were screaming bloody murder over the $400 dollar repair bill for the obvious factory defect - some were on their second go round.
LG used to be Lucky Goldstar of really cheap 1980s electronics fame until they rebranded themselves as Life Is Good.

(35,653 posts)I researched whether a product defect was covered and I found all kinds of class actions suits against LG.
Samsung is so horrible I took them to small claims court. They were such jerks they actually sent over a lawyer. The lawyer found a loophole way to stymie me and I lost. It's the only small claims suit I ever lost and I've brought around 60 cases to court.
LG sucks but Samsung sucks more. I won't even touch a Samsung phone or any other type of product they make because of this experience.

(26,324 posts)Ive had fairly good luck with GE even though their quality has gone down over the years.
My partners moms microwave crapped out 1 month out of warranty. When I called Ge they told me the best they could do was a $50 dollar credit toward a new Ge microwave. The woman on the phone was indignant when I said now why would I buy another Ge when this one lasted only a year?
Ge finally agreed to pay for the magnetometer and we pay for the service call. The poor guy who did the service call was mortified when he walked in on my partners moms husband on his deathbed/home hospice in the living room. He fixed the microwave and ran out saying dont worry about the bill.

(10,749 posts)Hard to "love" an appliance, so I won't go that far. And how it cleans is due partly to the detergent you use. But I've been happy with the Maytag. Even the short cycle, 1 hour, does a fine job, and it's very quiet. I know other machines are described as even more quiet, but I'd be hard-pressed to know how they could be.

(804 posts)Our new Gold Certified green built house had a GE in it when we moved in 5 years ago, but I disliked it. It had a cheap plastic interior and was really noisy. We replaced it, and gave it to our son. We got a new Maytag and I love it! It's energy efficient, cleans extremely well and even has a Powerblast cycle which will handle baked on items. It has a self cleaning filter too, which most dishwashers do not have.

(31,382 posts)Never had any problems with it. Loved the way it washed dishes. Extremely quiet.
Bought another Bosch--least expensive model--to put in the kitchen of the studio apartment over our garage that was a rental. It didn't cost much more than low end models of other manufacturers.
When a friend told me her dishwasher had died, I suggested a Bosch. She put in a low end model and has had it for over a year now and is very happy with it.

(17,425 posts)Bosch seems to be the right answer, based on online reviews, as well as the responses here.
But I don't know...I have a 20 year old Kenmore that is refusing to die. The only reason I need a new one is because the tines on the racks are rusting, and the replacement racks are hard to find and very expensive for what they are.
Good luck!
