Then, at great cost, they repaved it, and cut new groves....only to make the same mistake a second time.

Contrary to what the claim is in the link, it will still sound like "America the Beautiful" at speeds below and above 45mph- but not as nice as 45- just slower or faster. It would be nice if they had painted the section with the groves so you could more accurately transverse it. Oh, and a little further on (after the song finishes) on the road is a section that appears to be a "first" attempt at some song- it's real short- and they tried to obliterate it but it still sings something. It's all pretty cool .

My fucking singing roads patent that I never filed!!!

It came to me while driving into DC back in 1994 - true story.

It was late at night and I was on my way to SC. Due to roadwork, the road was grated (being prepared for resurfacing). I hit two patches and they made sounds like musical note. I thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool if they grated the road with the 1st 8 notes of the Star Spangled Banner? I always meant to patent that idea!!!

And we can't afford medical care for all and we have high rates of poverty. Our inner city schools are in shambles, we don't pay our teachers a living wage. But we spend trillions of dollars every year on the military industrial complex and give billionaires tax cuts.

I applaud the Netherlands.

Sorry, this just triggered a rant.

We are on the highway to hell. That is why I am taking the first fork in the road I find. Spoons and knives are okay, but forks, well that's another matter entirely.

Traffic is so dense there that you practically have to drive between 11 PM and 6 AM to find a stretch of road that doesn't resemble a parking lot. I'm there once a week most of the year, and at times their main roads make an L.A. freeway seem deserted by comparison.

At least for daytime hours. I doubt that will really reduce pollution.

I lived in West Texas during the 55mph national speed limit. It was a ridiculous speed limit for those conditions back then (early 80s) and I know at least one person who fell asleep behind the wheel driving home from Austin to El Paso in those conditions.

That isn’t music - it is awful and it would encourage me to not “hit the right speed”
