Florida city shuts down part of a park due to annual snake orgy

(CNN)Things got quite sssspicy near Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland, Florida, this week.

After residents began reporting snake sightings to the Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department, the department and the city's Public Works Department began investigating.

Turns out it's mating season for the Florida water snake, officials said, and a large group snakes have gathered near the lake for a giant orgy. Caution tape was put up around the area to increase public awareness of the snake orgy.

"It appears they have congregated for mating," the department said in a Facebook post. "They are non-venomous and generally not aggressive as long as people do not disturb them."

6. When I was a kid I was out on a picnic with my Grandparents and came across a garter snake

orgy. I grabbed one and took it to show Gramps and Granny. They told me to put it back and leave them alone so I did and still try to follow their wishes.

7. When I was 16 ('66) I visited Bangkok with my parents.

One day we drove out to a huge cobra farm where they make the anti-venom
for most of Asia. There was a three foot high wall surrounding a large, maybe
half acre, island. The cobras were thick but wouldn't cross the moat to where
we watched. There were 2 foot high concrete domes all over with rebar handles.
A guy came out and walked across a plank onto the island, kicking snakes out of
his way. He lifted one of the domes and there were so many cobras inside they
had taken the shape of the dome. He then milked the venom from a few for the
benefit of the tourists. I was astounded.
Bangkok was very cool.
