I bought extra canned goods and frozen food in case the pandemic comes to Pennsylvania. I also bought extra baking supplies in case of no pandemic because I volunteered to bake for a bake sale.

(18,402 posts)Are you sure your organization should be holding a bake sale, given the circumstances?

(7,715 posts)Am curious how bad it is.
Frankly, I think it's an overreaction. However, I trust absolutely nothing from the buffoons "running" our country, so maybe it is warranted.

(14,970 posts)looking for the last rolls of $5 toilet paper or $10/can tuna fish. So they are all buying a bunch of shite they don't need.
That will reduce supplies for everyone else and it will snowball. Then in about 6 months ebay and craigslist will be full of people selling stuff off.
And so it goes.

(15,095 posts)Seemed normal for a rainy Pittsburgh morning. I had a huge cartload because I only go once a month and also I was buying extra for pandemic and not pandemic.

(14,970 posts)If there is a pandemic riot, your frozen food will rot and you will end up using your baking goods (flour, sugar, etc) for survival.....

(14,118 posts)to what I know, a schizophrenic differs from a typically psychotic person in that the schizophrenic is
psychotic ALL the time and much more difficult to treat. I know this because I've been involved with treatment for mental illness since 1976, as a patient. Even today I avoid using psychiatric terms in my daily communication because there's a lot of misunderstanding around. I use words like "frantic" or
"anxious" instead.
No axe grinding from me since I understood what you meant even if your shopping experience sounds like it was well-planned and well done. In other words, totally "normal".

(13,666 posts)number of items I buy there. I can get just as good a deal at our Winco supermarket on most things.
It's in eastern Washington state. Since it Washington seems to be the hardest hit state so far, I thought I'd better go before we have confirmed cases here. So far everything has been on the west side.
Since I was there, I got everything I could think of that I might need for the next month, which was only three total items. I'm single and retired. I don't have to let anyone in, so I can pretty much go hermit for awhile. Only go grocery shopping at zero dark 30 to avoid crowds too.
I was wondering if this thing comes around and then goes away after a reasonable amount of time?
I only saw one lady that looked like she may be really stocking up, but that also could have been a normal run for some café or something.

(17,757 posts)I always go early and, as usual, it was like a ghost town. I picked up some sugar and came home and canned a gallon and a half of Calamondin marmalade. I checked the paper isle out of curiosity, and it was fully stocked. No signs of hoarding or panic yet.
If he world comes to an end, at least I can go out with a belly of jelly.

(12,132 posts)We just discovered it last week and have already bought 2 of them. Couldn't believe how good it is and even though I could make one I can't make one that big and that easily.
I think I need to grab a bottle of HP sauce for the next one.
They have a frozen meat lasagna that is delicious too. (after heating it up. lol)
I didn't notice my local store being any more ridiculously crowded than it always is. Especially for the big Sunday rush when they close early and everyone remembers at 4pm they forgot to go to Costco.
I liked filling my truck up with $2.13 gas too.
