(4,305 posts)get a certified, 3 day letter to me. The problem with mine was that it stopped showing where it was after it left the first facility.
Totally Tunsie
(10,885 posts)Five days to get from the post office to the building next to the post office! In fact, the two buildings shared a short roadway. When I gave it to the clerk, I pointed through the window to signify where it was going and asked how long for a return receipt. Then I paid $6.50 for the privilege!
And to think I joked with her that she could drop it off on the way to her car that evening. Damn. Some people have no sense of humor.

(4,305 posts)He just looked at me with a dirty look. No sense of humor. He was lucky I was joking because inside I was really pissed it took so long.

(34,136 posts)Way back when zip codes were first introduced, my sister sent a letter to our aunt in Greensboro, Alabama from our home in Florida. She put the zip code on but not the state - after all, the PO had been advertising that with zip codes we didn't need to put states or even towns!
The letter went to North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Oklahoma and even places where Greensboro was no longer a listed town, just historical, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana. It never went to Alabama.
My sister got the letter back covered with postal cancellation stamps and the notes that it was undeliverable and several "no such address" rubber stamp marks.

(33,643 posts)I omitted the records describing what happened before it hit Sacramento, it started out back east in Arkansas.
And lets just say, my procurement of the contents of this package required an application wherein the Feds find out a LOT about me, most definitely including my full address (in AZ) and Zip Code.
That's what makes this so ridiculous ... it's spent two whole weeks in a whole other state, bouncing back/forth between two post offices ...

(34,136 posts)But have had mail sent to alternate locations in other states.
You're right - I bet the scanners misread the zip as you suggested in your other message. In which case, either scanners need cleaning or the printer that printed the label needs to be cleaned or change the toner cartridge!

(33,643 posts)With the exception of one digit, and that one digit is VERY similar-looking to the correct one (it's something like 5 vs 6) ... probably an optical scanner misread the zip somewhere along the way is my guess ...

(50,557 posts)A company in Brooklyn sent me a package with photo proofs in it. It went by US Mail.
From...
The Brooklyn post office to
The Boston central mail sorting facility to
The Chicago mail processing facility to
The Manhattan mail processing facility to
The International Mail terminal at JFK to
A postal acceptance facility in Paris to
The main post office in Tel Aviv, Israel
Fortunately, the company that sent it was nice...they reprinted the order and shipped it; it went from NYC to Seattle, then was loaded on a truck and hauled straight to Idaho.
