2. we had a wounded Canada goose stuck in mud here last week...

...and it was found by a neighbor who had his elder and ill dog with him and didn't think it wise to go in after the bird. He asked FB friends to get help immediately, via his phone. The bird was rescued, but did not survive and was later buried near where it was found.

The sad part is that Canada geese mate for life, and the mate grieves and waits and waits for the dead one to return. We had one survivor here stand on the river bank every day and call to geese flying over, waiting for its mate. Every day for a whole season. Very sad. (They recognize each other by the sound of the voice, I am told)

He put himself in considerable danger both with the conditions and with the bird. All handled like a pro. How cool we got to see that.
