Cat Says 'Uh-Oh' Like A Person Whenever She's Out Of Food

"To her, it means, 'Feed me!'"

By Lily Feinn

Meet Bacon — a cat who knows exactly how to ask for what she wants.

But the independent calico doesn’t communicate with a normal “meow.” She’s actually learned how to mimic her mom’s words. Well, two words, to be exact: “Uh-oh.”

The first time she did it, Bacon’s mom and dad couldn’t believe their ears. “When we get up in the morning and go to feed her without thinking we would say, ‘Uh-oh! your bowl is empty,’” Barbara Jones, Bacon’s mom, told The Dodo. “Out of the blue one morning, she said ‘Uh-oh’ first very clearly!”

Both of Bacon’s parents heard her say “Uh-oh” but when they tried to get her to repeat it, Bacon refused to open her mouth. “She is a cat after all,” Jones said.

But they didn't have to wait long for Bacon to say her new favorite word again. The next day, Bacon said "Uh-oh" when her parents came down to feed her, and has continued to say it almost every day since.

“Now when we ask her, 'Do you wanna eat?' she responds with a hearty ‘Uh-oh,’" Jones said.

For Bacon, "Uh-oh" is not an expression of alarm — it’s a demand. “To her, it means, ‘Feed me!’” Jones said.

You can watch the surprising video here:

Jones and Bacon’s relationship has been close since the moment they met 11 years ago. “I heard a kitty just yelling outside my apartment. I opened the door and she ran in,” Jones said. “Bacon picked me.”

When Bacon wants food, she uses her words. But when she wants love, she never has to ask.

Sundance. He passed December 7, 2018.

He really did make sounds that meant certain things.

One of my cats mimics kiss noises. She’s very lovey and likes to sit on my lap for hugs and to put her face right near mine. A couple years ago, I noticed her making a new noise- it sounds like a human smacking their lips after yawning or waking. It’s a weird little noise, lol! After a while, we realized she only does it when she’s in my lap and gets a kiss on the top of her head (or her lil’ nose). It’s adorable.

a few days ago. I had gone out front to do a few things in the yard and I saw that she was in the window watching me. When I came back in she jumped to an adjacent shelf, looked at me and let out a breathy noise that sounded very much like “hhhaai.” I was thrilled.
Now I say hi to her all in time, in hopes she will do it again.

Ours sleep in a variety of strange places and positions, some of which do not look comfortable at all, but I always tell my husband, “If it weren’t comfortable, cats wouldn’t do it.”

I was able to get her on cassette tape in a repartee with her responding to me asking "You do?" and her replying with "I love you."

Years before that I had a Siamese that I trained to use the toilet in the guest bathroom, following a book titled: How to Toilet Train Your Cat: 21 Days to a Litter-Free Home...but I digress...
