DO. NOT! PLAY. SOLITAIRE while you're sheltering-in-place!!

If you start, in a couple of minutes, someone will come looking over your shoulder and tell you to play the red eight on the black nine--and you're exposed!! Social distancing, people!!

everything else stops. So you play a game, and replay it, to see if you could have won by playing different cards..Then you play it again, and after a while you stop playing that game of SOLITAIRE and then start playing another game of SOLITAIRE...

yES....SOCIAL DISTANCING PEOPLE...!!! Solitaire is the answer...or typing on the computer at Democratic Underground in the ...LOUNGE... is also an answer.

I planned to get to sleep at about 9pm..Friday night...well...it is 11:45 pm on Friday. I got stuck playing a type a type of SOLITAIRE that I had an opportunity to beat and win.

...... So, I replayed the game over and over and over ........................................and you know the rest.....over and over.....until I beat the damn game. Now, I probably won't get to sleep for another hour, because I am upset over being up so late....BUT HELL,I DID BEAT THAT DAMN GAME!!!!!!

that ANYONE could have actually voted for a pussy-grabbing reality TV show con man TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES - there is absolutely NO EXCUSE

but the cat does not like such concentration on something besides her. So, she is right there, attacking my fingers on the mouse as it moves. Also likes to pace back and forth across the desk between the screen and me, blocking my view.

It's obvious that she knows the pacing disrupts me because she does a quick little fast step as she passes in front, like a phony "Oops. Pardon me." Then scoots quickly out of reach, turns, and does it again.

But, both her ladyship and I are indoor dwellers now, so I don't consider her an exposure risk.

isn't it?

Yesterday, mine kept staring at me, off and on, with that omniscient look that cats have, as if they know something you don't. I had gone out for supplies earlier and I thought about how cats and dogs sometimes sense, from scent or whatever else, that a person is sick.

I started getting spooked that maybe I had picked up something while out. Then common sense prevailed (I hope) and I realized that even animals would not sense something that quick. So the look of "I know something you don't know" probably came from some mischief she pulled while I was out. I expect to find an earring tucked into a shoe soon, or a cat toy stuffed begind a sofa cushion.

human range. I live in an apt building. Sometimes my cat will stop in the middle of doing something and turn her head in a particulsr direction as if she is staring at something. But later I realize that she was only adjusting her head direction to better pick up a distant sound, which becomes clear to me when it gets close enough for me to hear it, too. Often it is the elevator on the way up to my floor. Or a distant siren outside.

Other times, maybe they see microscopic dust particles in the air.

Or they just like spooking us out?

I’ve been playing solitaire on my computer for years, as a break from work, or when I need to empty my mind completely when too many stressful thoughts start to overtake it.

Really, after a few games your brain is completely rid of demons, and all you are focused on is getting that eight of spades you need. Better than seeing a therapist.

For Mac users, I highly recommend Solitaire Til Dawn. Forty Thieves still my favorite game. (app also available for iPad)

It mentions playing Solitaire. Then I heard it again some years later, and realized it was a peppy little tune about crushing depression.

Navy boot camp, San Diego, October 1965, tinny little radio, no TV, no phone:

Countin flowers on the wall,
That don't bother me at all.
Playing Solitaire till dawn,
With a deck of fifty-one.
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo.
Now, don't tell me I've nothing to do.

Still like that song.

is I keep saying...
just one more game. Just one more game.

Next thing I know it is 2 a.m. and I’ve drifted off and the iPad
has slid off my knees and is headed for the floor. That’s what I get
for playing Sol sitting up in bed.

But it does work when I can’t sleep.
It’s better than a tranquilizer.
