I'm no teetotaler, but things have gotten real.

"Ahhm gonna buy enough crap to last me 2 months so I don't have to go out agin!"

Great.

HOWEVER. There's nothing left for anyone ELSE. Many of them people who need it more or who are more susceptible or who can't hit 6 stores to get it all.

Selfish, ignorant, dangerous.

Experts have said people only need 2 weeks of supplies. The supply chain is fine - if it dries up it will be from people HOARDING, not the virus.

Don't be stupid.

Don't be selfish and greedy.

Don't waste your money.

Don't make this more dangerous for other people.

STOP. HOARDING.

I only needed to buy ice. The woman in front of me bought something like $568 worth of groceries. I was frankly appalled, although she did not have hoarder amounts of any one item, not really. Six packages of sliced turkey looked like the largest single purchase, and I'm sure they can be frozen.

But still.

Both statements.

For reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with this corona virus thing, I happen to have a lot of meat in my freezer. I am embarrassingly well stocked, even for normal times. Plus, I live alone, don't have a huge appetite, and with occasional replenishing (more fresh veggies, some chicken or beef broth) I hardly have to spend any money on groceries for several weeks to come.

When unemployment really hits hard, we may have neighbors knocking on our doors and I don't think I could say "no". I doubt if food banks will be able to handle the load, as they were stressed prior to this disaster. I also fear crime will go out the roof with desperate people stealing anything not tied down and breaking into our cars.

My son and I are stocked fairly well for basic get-by foods but we're going to have to de-spoil ourselves from some of the fluff stuff like soft drinks (him) and candy (me).

I think we'll survive if only we can keep that evil demon out of the house.
