I can't remember the last time I went to a barber or "hair stylist".. I cut my when ever I want..
No waiting...YMMV

You can set the adjustable collar to what ever length you want your hair to be. I set mine to ¾ inch. So the hair around my ears is ¾ inch. If you want it shorter, you set the adjustable collar for less of a distance. You could set it for ¾ for the first pass and then re set it for a shorter length for around the ears. I just use one length.
As for the back of my neck I just take my brush and brush my hair toward the front of my head to expose where the hair starts and then use a razor and a mirror. A few swipes and Im done. Takes me about 10 or 15 min to cut and cut my hair. Oh and btw it does not look bad..
