Related: Culture Forums, Support Forums..Hubby just had a pre-op Covid test......you DONT want one!..
..about a 5-6 inch swab (he said that's NOT a q tip.. its a brush!)...waaaaay up his nose. I filmed it as I was in the passenger side of the car.
Even if I have to wear a plastic bag over my head I am not going to get myself in the position of having to endure that. I dont even have pierced ears! I know for sure now trump* only had one...no one wants two of those. They give you a wad of tissues in case you have to 'sneeze or cough' after, but i think its in case blood starts gushing out.
results will come tomorrow AFTER his surgery...but we have basically been house bound for two weeks.

(2,990 posts)It doesn't make them ungrateful.
I complained about the cerclage I had to have during my 2nd pregnancy. It was a painful procedure and bed rest sucked. Was I happy that I got it and my 2nd child stayed in longer than my 1st? Of course. I still complained.
Stop it with this forced positivity nonsense. People can be unhappy. It's NORMAL.

(17,605 posts)...its another thing to consider if you are taking this too lightly. wtf? Hubby is going in FOR CANCER surgery... and we are BOTH health care providers.
dont tell me to 'grow up'..now if you will excuse me.. im off to the hospital where I have to leave him at the door when he goes thru a 5 HOUR surgery for cancer..

(21,998 posts)All I meant was that people who want to be tested cannot get the test. More importantly, like many medical exams, even if it's uncomfortable, it could mean the difference between life and death.
I'll delete my post. I meant no offense and I apologize.

(13,538 posts)anyone by describing how unpleasant it is. I've been bitching about trump doing that. I think he was told to for that reason. It's pretty clear he didn't want testing all along.
Sure you'd rather be doing something else, but get tested if you have any cause to. It can't be worse than spreading it around then not knowing what you have if you get sick.

(8,311 posts)I think that we can all agree on -- nobody wants to be sick enough to contemplate burdening an already overburdened testing system, or have to have testing for rule-outs because of surgery or having been exposed through work.
That being said, if you do need to be tested, yes, you do want to get the test, no matter how unfun it might be. I am aware of how much they have to floss your sinuses even to do a flu test, and don't even enjoy those. If it's at all similar, no, it's not a fun process. But it is a necessary one.
One you can hopefully avoid if you stay the fuck at home (said in Samuel L. Jackson's voice).

Like an idiot, I volunteered. The procedure was administered conscious and without anaesthesia.
Not fun.
But I survived...

(63,221 posts)Wouldn't they be able to find the virus in the lower nasal passages as well? Or do a blood test? Pardon my ignorance, I just don't understand why this is the preferred method of testing.

(70,645 posts)When this started there was a video of a reporter getting the swab (in both nostrils), and she handled it well, but just because after it was over she said softly, "Ow-ee," several of our fellow DUers were mocking her and paraphrasing "snowflake."
Here's another video (can't find the other one), that is only one nostril, and it's a guy so he's "tough." I also will have it done when it happens, but not looking forward to it.
***ON EDIT: Here's the first video, the woman who got mocked::
