Let them take the cars, the trains, the buses, the Amtraks, let them play in the park. And if everything’s good after five days of them playing out there in the streets, we’ll all go back to [work].”

“F---ing pig — the real people want to get back to work ASAP? You never worked a f---ing day in your life. You’re worried about the next four years? You need to be worried about the next four days, motherf---er. You need to be worried about the next four weeks — the next four months, you motherf---er. 46. Yes, the Daily Mail agreed to pay damages & issue an apology. Their statement:
Mon Apr 13, 2020, 11:11 AM
Apr 2020

"The Mail Online website and the Daily Mail newspaper published an article on 20th August 2016 about Melania Trump which questioned the nature of her work as a professional model, and republished allegations that she provided services beyond simply modelling. The article included statements that Mrs. Trump denied the allegations and Paulo Zampolli, who ran the modelling agency, also denied the allegations, and the article also stated that there was no evidence to support the allegations. The article also claimed that Mr and Mrs Trump may have met three years before they actually met, and 'staged' their actual meeting as a 'ruse.'
We accept that these allegations about Mrs Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them. We apologise to Mrs Trump for any distress that our publication caused her. To settle Mrs Trump's two lawsuits against us, we have agreed to pay her damages and costs."

All the Daily Mail did was report the facts of the story. They did their own investigation and reported the facts of those findings.

Trump simply did what Trump does which is to file frivolous lawsuits knowing full well the cost of defense is going to exceed what they are demanding. It's a shame that the Daily Mail conceded and it's an even bigger shame that other media outlets didn't do a better job of defending them.

There's no wiggle room there. And the Daily Mail is hardly a poor publication.

"We accept that these allegations about Mrs Trump are not true" is not the same thing as admitting what they published wasn't true.

The so-called "wiggle room" can be found in the first paragraph of the apology.

The Mail Online website and the Daily Mail newspaper published an article on 20th August 2016 about Melania Trump which questioned the nature of her work as a professional model, and republished allegations that she provided services beyond simply modelling. The article included statements that Mrs. Trump denied the allegations and Paulo Zampolli, who ran the modelling agency, also denied the allegations, and the article also stated that there was no evidence to support the allegations. The article also claimed that Mr and Mrs Trump may have met three years before they actually met, and "staged" their actual meeting as a "ruse."

The Daily Mail didn't make those allegations and they never admitted to making those allegations. They printed that others had made those allegations which is factually correct. They also printed they found no evidence to support those allegations, and they printed that Melania had denied those allegations. If anything the Daily Mail did the Trumps a service by printing there was no evidence found to support them.

The tactical mistake the Daily Mail made was to retract the story following a demand letter from Trump long before the lawsuit was ever filed. There was nothing to retract. They reported the facts.

The reason the Daily Mail settled the lawsuit is because after changing venues, Trump's lawyers finally found a judge who was either sympathetic to their cause or was afraid of Trump's legal team and who didn't throw out the lawsuit in the first round which should have happened. The fact that it didn't is a travesty and a disservice to the free press which Trump has been attacking since before he even got in office and has continued to do every day since.

With all the denials as well as admitting they had no evidence to back any of the claims up, they STILL printed the article. I say they got what they deserved, what little money it cost them anyway. And newspaper or TV news, whatever, should know better than to put out something that weak.
And as I said in another post, why do you have to make shit up about the TRUMPS?? They GIVE you plenty of fodder to print!!

Unless you read far right shit; and then THEY should have been sued as well for spreading false stories. But someone needs to stand up when it happens. The scandal sheets no longer publish gay stories about Tom Cruise, because he sued the shit out of one of them.

The DM should have known better than to print what they did. They did it because they knew it would get readers; nothing else.
You dont see it that way, fine.

If the Daily Mail was at fault for reporting on an allegation and pointing out there's no evidence for it, then every other news outlet is at fault for doing the same thing. Objectivity requires consistency of thought.

Why else would any for-profit news outlet publish anything if not to get readers?

This has predictably devolved into a thread about Melania. Never forget, Trump is not only a conman -- he is owned by Russia. He would still be a great danger to our country without the hooker; but Melania without Trump is a nobody. She is not a threat to us, but attracts the most derision here!
