I never knew that groomers are actual artists at their work, compared to plain commoners like ourselves.

(90,675 posts)I think they may have been intended to clip nose hair, but my mom always used them to clip the baby's nails. My husband uses the same type to clip stuff out of our little dog's fur if he can't work it out with his fingers while watching tv. (Before I went to the drug store and hunted up the round-headed pair he uses now, he was using some random ancient cuticle scissors with a sharp tip.)
Our dog's fur will completely cover her eyes if left alone. She's half poodle and half Lhasa Apso, and 100% wool. I wish now I'd taken a picture of my efforts to clear her face! I made it half-way across the top of her head before tiring, but she could certainly see where she was going.
Others were not as amused as I was -- I kept saying, "Your mom cuts your hair funny! " and laughing.
And now it's time to do it again.
ETA: get someone to hold the dog to keep him from jerking his head. I wouldn't have tried it without my husband doing that for me.

My dogs are visiting their groomer today. They looked so raggedy. Poor groomer.

(34,108 posts)for a while. Picture #5. I think it actually took me about a week to get her (the first one) all done. By the time my back gave out, my knees too, I was doing both of them. They never looked great but being farm dogs I would just clip them down to the shortest length I could get them. I only have one of them now and she goes to a groomer. These were great, thanks for the laugh.

(20,869 posts)He required professional grooming every 6 weeks or so. At the time, the cost was not much (abt. $15). It worked out just fine until the groomer retired!
I tried to do it myself and oh my!
He did not know what an horrible job I had done trying to trim him up and as for clipping his nails, uh huh ... not so easy!
I think you did a pretty good job btw!
& recommend.

(10,495 posts)Even the largest guard will not allow the dense hair through so I had to try and cut her without a guard. It is too hot and humid for her to make it without a cut. Let's just say she looks worse than any of these pictures.

(20,629 posts)to see the groomer next week, and am grateful they're doing a drop-off service, to minimize person-to-person contact within the shop. She will probably need a quasi-lion cut to handle the matting, despite my efforts to keep her combed every day.

PS. Glad I have cats.

(115,686 posts)she hates it and runs away whenever I approach her with any kind of brush or comb. I shudder to think what she'd look like if she'd let me near her with a clipper. When things open up a bit I'll have to take her to a pro for a lion cut because she'll tear my face off if I try.

(3,257 posts)Hershey, PA. Wow! I had no idea. We actually just took a seat at the patio bar and watched and listened to their stories. Later in the evening, their star, celebrity, groomer showed up. You would have thought Elton John had entered the bar. It was kind of like being dropping into a scene from Best in Show. They are serious about what they do.

(34,136 posts)He was pretty scruffy when she got him so she tried to groom him. I'm not sure if the organization that gave him to her to foster saw her facebook post - he was so messed up she got him a sweater to cover her mistakes - but they sent a groomer to her to do a better job.
She has obviously fallen in love with the little dog, but she cannot keep a pet. She spends six weeks away on assignment so owning a pet is not possible. That just adds to the enjoyment for now, having a pet again is great for her.
