I haven't been out much. If I can run errands using walk-ups or outside drops, I do and my lovely daughter gets my groceries. I don't miss restaurant or takeout food, although I miss the social aspect of seeing if anyone wants to meet for lunch, where to go, and the other little bits of planning. But I really missed going to Dollar Tree and they don't do online orders. I can give my daughter a grocery list, but going to Dollar Tree is different. I can't give her a list and add, "pick up anything I might need, or might catch my eye, or might come in handy." So I have gone to Dollar Tree 3 times since March 13th. I go between 9 and 10, the time reserved for high risk customers. I went this morning and was in the store about 20 minutes and got it out of my system for while. I was masked and gloved, had hand sanitzer with me, and did my decontamination routine when I got home (gargling with 80 proof vodka before breakfast is a real treat) I was glad to see so many people wearing masks. And we were all observing social distance, and most of us apologized if we got too close. I liked that
I have 1 more outside errand to do by June 1st, and then I am in for another unspecified length of time.

(16,949 posts)I got my grandson a squishy unicorn splat ball for Halloween at a Dollar Tree when I was in Cleveland. I thought it was perfect for him to squish and splat and he loved it. For a day, then it broke. I looked in my local Dollar Trees for more, and had no luck. I asked my friend to see if there were any more at that store, which is near her house. She got the last 7 and I doled them out till Valentine's Day. The 2nd time I handed them out, I gave my granddaughter one and told them I give them each $5 if they could make them last 5 days. They both kept their splat balls in one (really sticky, gunky, hairy piece) and I think liked the challenge.

(10,429 posts)If I can't get something at a local place, I'll use Amazon or otherwise order online. I'd rather avoid corporate chains, but if that's not possible, might as well have it delivered instead of making multiple stops around town. Which is great when I know exactly what I need. The convenience is nice, but I still like to go look around and see what I might want or need, and check out all the clearance areas. That's what makes shopping fun

(16,949 posts)Years ago when the Dollar Trees first started popping up, I was in one with my husband, who wasn't a fan. He was keeping me company while I looked around and I asked him if he wanted to get anything. "No," he said, "I'll wait till they have a sale." I didn't take him along after that

(23,097 posts)I don't go to Fresh Market anymore because it's so awesome, there are too many people in the store lingering around just like I'd iike to. I am saving soooo much money not going to there or Costco, both of those places really trigger my impulse buying. At Publix, I go in, get my listed items and get out ASAP and the one near my house isn't crowded in the morning on weekdays.
