(3,131 posts)That musak was the result of psychological studies right after WW II. They found that the syrupy sweet sounds made many people tense and uncomfortable.
The real surprise was when they performed mental agility tests, people who listened to musak actually performed better. The effect was more pronounced the more uneasy the person was when listening.
Apparently the contrast of sweet music and that tense feeling made people more wary of ideas that superficially sound good.
Some people believe it is no accident that the decline of musak in the late seventies is correlated with the decline of critical thinking skills.
You cant fool me though. I think we should bring back musak to restore critical thinking skills.
