We need a place to grieve, and be angry, and comfort one another...

(5,640 posts)My son and I facetimed tonight and we were both devastated. He is not feeling well because of this news and took it very hard. I think a lot of young people are taking this hard tonight. The fear he raised with me is genuine and I understand, but I did my best to console him and let him know we must remain positive. I used all my knowledge gained here at DU to help him understand the future and I think we parted with him feeling a little better.
We will never have a hero like RBG again, she has left a mighty big footprint on history.
Tonight is night for somber reflection and we should all take a deep breath and do Ruth Bader Ginsberg the greatest of honors by getting up tomorrow with a renewed determination and vigor to make sure that we do everything in our power to stop Trump from getting another 4 years. We must fight as she fought, till our last breath...
Sending my prayers for her tonight, but I know she is already sitting on the highest court.
Peace and Love, Aristus!

(115,685 posts)RBG was for women's rights. I was out for a walk in my neighborhood this evening when a complete stranger came up to me and told me what had happened. She was an amazing woman. I read this evening that according to Jewish tradition, a person who dies on Rosh Hashanah - which starts tonight - is a tzaddik, a person of great righteousness.

(8,028 posts)She is as in a field a silken tent
At midday when the sunny summer breeze
Has dried the dew and all its ropes relent,
So that in guys it gently sways at ease,
And its supporting central cedar pole,
That is its pinnacle to heavenward
And signifies the sureness of the soul,
Seems to owe naught to any single cord,
But strictly held by none, is loosely bound
By countless silken ties of love and thought
To every thing on earth the compass round,
And only by one's going slightly taut
In the capriciousness of summer air
Is of the slightlest bondage made aware.

It was shocking to read the news about RBG tonight and how it will factor into election politics. I mourn her loss.
