Coywolves

What can anyone tell me about coywolves. I think one has decided to call my property home. It’s just hanging around during the day. Maybe at night too but I don’t see it then. It’s dark. Hasn’t attacked any of the four species living here: human, canine, feline, equine. So far.

I’ve read that they are now widespread in New England. But in almost 20 years haven’t seen a one. Coyotes now and again, though mostly their group howling. The odd fox traveling through. Our bears, of course. But not these coywolves.

Threat? Friendly neighbor? Buy a .22? Etc.?

they killed off all the coyotes early in the last century and hybrids from lower canada repopulated.
they are mush less shy, and moving into urban areas at a fast clip.
they have also been known to hunt together. they are much larger, too.

the good news is that they dont like contact w humans and are easily scared away. keep a can w some pennies in it close by. rattle it, yell at them, and make yourself as big as you can.
above all, make sure there is nothing around for them to eat. dont feed pets outside, dont feed feral cats and keep a tight lid on your trash.

they fill a niche, tho. if you have rodents, they will clean them up. we have them allll over chicago.
