When no existing term could meet both conditions, she made up a new one: Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, or A.S.M.R. She started with “autonomous” because it was a feeling from within; “sensory” was self-explanatory. “Meridian” worked triple duty, suggesting peak but also orgasm and the energy pathways of traditional Chinese medicine. “Response” was just to say that it was not a constant state; it happened in reaction to a set of stimuli, like whispering, gum chewing and tapping.

When I google “ASMR knives”, I’m not finding a brand, but rather more videos of soaps being cut - wha??

But it’s totally a thang, apparently!!

some comments:

....I have an unstoppable urge to eat them all.

....Why does my brain automatically say that looks delicious wtf

....Interviewer: so what are your skills?

Me: I cut soap

....It actually was a murder weapon and he’s doing this to clean it off

....me: minding my own business

my brain: eat

....Guy: Cuts soap

3.1 million people: ah yes, interesting

——Thanks for posting, owl!!

Why do people like this ASMR stuff? It sets my teeth on edge, sends my strees levels through the roof, and it is annoying!

I mean, I watch a lot of stupid shit on YouTube (I subscribe to several channels that are just British people living on canal boats documenting their travels, and I watch people playing complicated boardgames) but that’s a step too far for me.
