Brugges Belgium, for some bitterballen at this restaurant next door to the Basilica of the Holy (dried) Blood. and some of the best beer in the world.
Rotterdam, Netherlands, for some pancakes on the Pancake Boat (is what it sounds like).
Koln, Germany, there is this other restaurant near a market that has a revolving door and some of the best Kolsch beer and weinerschnitzle in the world.

(5,942 posts)some of the best beer I have ever had the pleasure to drink.
Not abroad, but I want to go to New Orleans for the Jazz and heritage festival to use the tickets I bought for 2020 and hopefully hear a tribute to John Prine. And I will have a vodka and ginger ale.

(1,370 posts)I'm from over in the ghetto in Oxnard; I always went to Ventura to surf and hang out. I mean, where are you going to hang out in Oxnard?

Wonderful people, great city. In fact the whole country is wonderful. Fantastic history, great architecture,, fantastic things to see and do.
My late husband and I were fortunate enough to go to Europe several times.
Brugges is top of the list of places we were able to visit. Yes there are plenty of other places to go and things to see but Brugges left a special place in my memory.
Wish I could go back. I can dream.

(18,402 posts)Ive been to Brugges and Rotterdam several times, and though Im sure I had beer, Im not sure that would be the main reason to travel to either of these wonderful towns. How about museums and architecture (old and quaint for Brugges, postwar modernism for Rotterdam)?
Never been to Koln, but a good friend lives there. She called this weekend because they were repeatedly running segments on German television that suggested the entire city of Chicago was imploding from Covid. We reassured her.
Prague is a great beer city, though I am not so Pilsner oriented. Still, Id go to Prague again in a heartbeat. Or Vienna. How about Paris or Copenhagen or Stockholm or Rome? Or Tokyo!
Id go anywhere, if travel were possible (or affordable). But, frankly, not for the beer.

(63,221 posts)Moules Frites. Their frites are the best I have ever had anywhere - so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And they have all different kinds of sauces to put on them.

(50,557 posts)The barracks my unit occupied is now a hotel. (http://www.aparion.de/) I want to stay in my old room, eat pfannkuchen (jelly donuts, which the rest of Germany calls Berliners) currywurst (mild sausages cut into slices and covered with ketchup and curry powder), doner kebab (a Turkish lamb sandwich) and schweinshaxe (uncured ham hock) mit kartoffelsalat (potato salad) und steckrube (spiral-sliced turnips - they're great) and, of course, ein Mass Budvar (a liter of Czechoslovakian-made Budweiser, which is far different and much better than American-made Budweiser) oder Berliner Kindl (which is pretty much Berlin's favorite beer) every night.

(54,369 posts)Since we live in the German Rheinland, we've seen a lot of what there is nearby, and when you live in Germany, LOTS of places are nearby. It's two hours or less by air to most cities, but one needs time to go explore them. The trouble is that some of them are just so cool, you always want to keep going back. I run down to Barcelona all the time for work, but it remains one of the most incredible cities in the world, and I never have enough time there. Prague is another of those. I haven't been up to København for a couple of years, and I'd like to go back just because. But I've heard great things about the cities I haven't been to, and we're not getting any younger. New Zealand would require a lot more time than our usual extended weekend jaunts, and for the moment, we're not exactly welcome anyway. We're not under any illusions about the food in Ireland, Scotland , Russia or Poland, but we know how good the food can be in Italy. My Polish is only rudimentary, but I can get by, especially since many Poles in the Western parft of the country know either German or English. I have no language problems in the other places, so that wouldn't be a burden.
Maybe in a year or two.................
