the reply tweet is spot on. the 2000 election isn't a good comparison for closeness.

in 2000, there was a single state difference in the electoral college, and shrub officially won the disputed state by a mere 537 votes.

in 2020, biden's margin of victory is larger. he has 306 electoral votes, a three-state margin, and a 5- or 6-digit lead in each.

a far better and much more obvious comparison is the election of 2016, where donnie won with the same 306 electoral votes and again, a three-state margin, though only a combined 78,000 vote margin in those three states.

donnie called that a "landslide", yet now that he lost by the exact same electoral count*, same state margin and an even larger swing vote difference, republicans insist it's a "close" election.


*technically, he won 306 electors, though 2 of them didn't vote, so he actually only got 304 electoral votes.
