Old, old technology

I was on a mountain hike and came to a complex trail junction. At said location there was a group wandering around looking at their phones apparently to find the right trail from their current position.

I yelled, " I have a map, want to look at it."

I used my hiking pole to kind of measure stand off distance. I pointed out their location on the map and they took a picture of it from a safe distance.

Maps. Don't run out of battery life. Don't need cell service.

Signed, old infantry guy.

Have a safe Thanksgiving all.

Unless you're out west. In which case, don't light a campfire.

Although I was a tanker, once a year we had to do a dismounted land nav proficiency course. Then I had to do it again during PLDC. My land navigation scores, plus a few other things, got me Honor Grad.
