It always ticked me off that Sinatra got credit for being the greatest of the greatest. Marvin Gaye was so much better. I can't imagine Sinatra being able to do THAT.

(46,051 posts)I did, however, see Marvin Gaye perform the song on The Smothers Brothers. He wore a leather outfit with long fringes, and he moved so fluidly. The fringes swung with him. It was hypnotizing.

(46,051 posts)That's maybe a minor point, but you could always understand every word he sang. He was truly one of the greatest singers of the 20th century.

(27,311 posts)it did after, "What's Goin' On?" came out. That's when he really showed how fabulous he really was. The difference from his 60s work is night and day.
