when searching for a couch. I am 5'1" and if the depth of the seat is too great, my legs dangle like a child. If I sit forward so they don't dangle, then my back hurts after a while. I look for couches with seating areas that are not too high and not set too far back. Then I try sitting on them to see if the cushions are comfortable - and firm enough that I don't sink down into them.

OTOH, I always have enough length to lie down on them. Hell, I can use a love seat for that.
