the smartest breed. However, this makes them more much more difficult to train. I call them cats in dog suits. Mine would cop an attitude and sulk... then get even.

He had a few trigger words that would drive him nuts so we started spelling them out. Then the bastard learned how to spell.

"aunt," oona-tay," "t" but he'd always figure it out. We started calling it "Charlie" which finally flummoxed the little guy because that was also my husband's name.

There better be a treat in this for me, or I'm dropping your adult entertainment buzzy thing on the front walkway.

We had a conversation with her:

"I'll give you ____, if you bring my shoe back." Sometimes she just wanted to be chased through the house. She'd put the shoe down when she was ready or if she thought we were getting angry.

I so dearly miss her.

I was chasing him around the living room one evening when he slipped on a magazine that fell on the floor and started whimpering and holding up his right foreleg like it was broken. I took him to the vet who said it was just a sprain. Thereafter, when he did something to make me angry, he would lift up that leg again and I'd run to him with hugs and comforting words. One day he trashed the wastebasket when I was at work. When I came home he was sitting among the trash and I hollered at him. He lifted his left leg and I started laughing. "You idiot," I said. "That's the wrong leg!" So he puts his left leg down and lifts up the right one.

She knows exactly what I'm talking about... but she simply ignores that which she doesn't want to hear.
