to keep dogs off of things. A little vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray a tiny amount on the surface, and they will avoid it like the plague.

I was getting desperate to stop this neighbour from bringing her dog over to let it pee and crap in front of my rental unit - so I Googled . . . ( my Landlord is a waste of skin and this neighbour is right friiken' nuts - don' wanna get in her face )
Squirt a combination of vinegar, lemon concentrate and water around my entrance, balcony pillars and so on . . . .
The dog won't come anywhere near my place now, so neither does it's owner . . .
