"What'll you have?" the waiter asked, merrily picking his nose.

"Some hard boiled eggs you son-of-a-gun, you can't put your fingers in those!"
This was from my mom's collection of sayings.
Another: "She offered her honor. He honored her offer, and all night long he was on her and off her."
She was born in 1908 and had so many old witticisms.

My paternal Grandfather, was a character too. He was a plumber by trade and started the volunteer fire company in our little town.
He was also a deadly witt and always ready with a quip or a witticism.

So much so, that he had himself a little side gig as master of ceremonies the dinners at our Church hall, where he would perform in a white satin top hat and tails, all 6"4"of him (he was a big Dutchman, think Ruetgar Howard) weaving between the tables and gently roasting the locals until everyone was laughing. Then, he would finish by wringing a few tears singing Danny Boy in a voice like an angel.

What I remember. most, was him offering this toast...literally at every party until the day he died.

Here's to the girl in the high heel shoes,
who spends your money and drinks your booze,
You walk her home most every night,
but she sleeps with her Mother...the stingy thing.
Slange"

I miss the colorful relatives. Here's to Jakey!
