The monthly fees jumped from $145 to $178
And that was just very basic shitty TV included.
Sick of dealing with them
Ordered Starlink (Tesla, Space X) for $99 per month.
The kit cost $499 plus $50 delivery and $45 tax.
Download speed is about the same as Comcast which is never at the speed they claim
Starlink has plans to increase their speed.
The IPO for Starlink will be worth looking at.

(27,141 posts)I stream this on a dirt road way off the broadband internet highway. But, I am very happy overall. Just need a Wifi connection to your TV. If you have a recently purchased smart TV, the app is probably built in. I get the major broadcast channels (local), MSNBC, CNN, and a bunch more great movie and sports channels. It's gone up to $65.00/month, but still a good value compared to cable.....and it's wireless, so no extra cabling needed.

(9,041 posts)That was the only reason we needed TV - just internet would be fine otherwise.
The TV stuff is crap. I never watch msm at all. Not even Maddow.

(5,583 posts)I did this because I read reviews to do so, because they will say you did not return the equipment although you did.
After I did, I got a bill saying I did not return the equipment, so I called and the lady asked if I had a receipt, I said yes and she said okay and fixed the bill to reflect zero.
She never asked me for the confirmation number on the receipt, so that leads me to believe this IS something they do regularly to charge you an extra $250. For equipment returned by mail.

(9,041 posts)They were very stubborn. Offering t reduce the bill by $10 if we gave up one digital box.
I could write a book about our experience with them.

(6,261 posts)I don't have personal experience with satellite internet, but while the advertised speed may well be competitive, there will likely be a significant lag making e.g. Zoom calls more difficult or even impractical.
BSdetect
(9,041 posts)There is bound to be several close enough to help reduce lag sufficiently or even eliminate that
We shall see.
Meanwhile:
One is latency, or delay between initiation of a signal and full speed or usability. Starlink promises 20-40 milliseconds of latency, and this early beta test confirms it: 34 milliseconds.Nov 1, 2020

(6,261 posts)I'm not happy with Comcast either, but they have no competition in my area. No Verizon Fibre or anything, sadly.
